How we work
Our rules, in public.
Artive Capital is the trading and investment desk of the Artive group. These are the rules it works by, where its numbers come from, and how it keeps what the rest of the group learns away from its trades.
How we tradeRules before returns.
- 01Artive’s capital onlyWe don’t raise outside capital. We only trade and invest the Artive group’s own money: we don’t take deposits, manage money for anyone else or run a fund.
- 02Commerce onlyWe only trade companies in commerce. If we can’t explain how a business makes its money, we don’t trade it.
- 03Risk set before entryEvery trade has an entry, an exit and a stop before it is placed, and is sized so no single trade can hurt the business.
- 04Flat by the closeWe are day traders. Positions open and close inside the JSE session, so we carry no overnight risk.
- 05Client work stays separateWe trade on public prices, results and news only. A listed company Artive Commerce or Artive Ventures works with is off our list while we do.
- 06Every trade loggedWe journal every trade and review the numbers each week. The market marks our homework daily.
The information wallPublic data out. Nothing private in.
The Artive group has three companies. Artive Commerce builds brands, stores and campaigns for clients. Artive Ventures tests and builds new commerce products. Artive Capital trades and invests the group’s own money.
Capital collects public numbers on South African commerce: share prices, company results, official prices, economic releases and the news. That data flows out, to the other companies and to anyone who visits this site.
Nothing flows the other way. What Commerce learns from clients and what Ventures learns from founders, merchants and partners never reaches the trading desk.
- Public information onlyThe desk trades on public prices, results, announcements and news. Nothing else.
- A restricted listA listed company that Artive Commerce or Artive Ventures works with, or is in talks with, is off Capital’s list for as long as that lasts.
Where the numbers come fromEvery number has a source.
- 01Share prices and company numbersYahoo Finance, delayed by at least 15 minutes.
- 02Economic releasesStats SA, the South African Reserve Bank, BER and NAAMSA, through TradingView’s economic calendar; the Reserve Bank for rates.
- 03Fuel pricesThe Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources’ official monthly prices, as recorded by the AA.
- 04Food pricesThe Pietermaritzburg Economic Justice & Dignity Group’s Household Affordability Index.
- 05Our own workThe Artive Commerce Indexes, Edge scores and next month’s fuel estimate are our calculations. They are labelled as ours, with how they’re worked out.
What we don’t do
- We don’t raise outside capital, take deposits or manage money for anyone.
- We don’t give financial advice or tell anyone what to buy or sell.
- We don’t sell or offer the Artive Commerce Indexes as products.
