Store map

Lights on.

Every shop of the JSE’s retailers that has been mapped on OpenStreetMap, as a point of light. Pick a company to light up its shops and see which provinces it serves.

Shops from OpenStreetMap, mapped by volunteers. It misses shops, more so in townships, small towns and rural areas, so read the numbers as mapped shops, not store counts. Map: Natural Earth. Shops last refreshed 3 October 2026. © OpenStreetMap contributors.

QuestionsGood to know.

  • From OpenStreetMap, the free map of the world that volunteers build and keep up to date. We take every shop tagged with one of the listed companies’ brands in South Africa and place it on the map. One shop tagged twice (for example as a point and as its building) is counted once.

  • OpenStreetMap only knows the shops someone has mapped. Big cities are well covered; townships, small towns and rural areas less so. A company’s own annual report is the place for its true store count. The map shows where the mapped shops are, which is still a good picture of each company’s footprint.

  • The JSE-listed retailers, restaurant groups and the bank whose shops and branches carry their own brands: grocers like Shoprite, Pick n Pay and SPAR, clothing and home retailers, pharmacies, building retailers and restaurant groups. Companies that sell through other people’s shops, like food brands, aren’t on it.

  • We refresh the shops from OpenStreetMap from time to time. The date of the last refresh is under the map.
