  • The JSE’s Stock Exchange News Service. Listed companies must publish price-sensitive news there first: results, trading statements, deals, dividends and changes to the board.

  • An early warning required by JSE rules once a company is reasonably sure its earnings per share for a period will differ by at least 20% from the last comparable period. It gives a range; the exact numbers come with the results.

  • Headline earnings per share: profit per share with one-off items such as gains or losses on selling assets taken out. It is the earnings figure South African companies and investors watch most.
