MethodologyHow it’s built.
Who is in it
Grocers, food and household brands and pharmacies, without Choppies, AB InBev and British American Tobacco.
- Weighted by market value: bigger companies count for more, but no single company can be more than 24% of an index.
- In indexes of 25 or more shares, if the companies above 4.5% together come to more than 48%, they are cut back to 40% so a handful of giants can’t run the index.
- ACI 50 holds the 50 largest shares on our list by market value; ACI 25 the mid caps, ranked 26 to 50. Both re-rank the whole list at every quarterly reset, so shares move in and out as they grow or shrink. The index changes page lists every move.
- Weights are reset every quarter, after the third Friday of March, June, September and December, and drift with prices in between. Price only; dividends are not added back.
- Past market values use today’s number of shares in issue.
- Quoted in rand: each index’s level today is the weighted average share price of its members at today’s weights, and its history follows the index’s moves back from there. The Top 40 line is scaled to start at the same level so the two compare.
- A share listed during the period joins from its first trading day. A one-day move of more than 35% is treated as a bad print in the source data and ignored.
- Built from delayed closing prices from Yahoo Finance. The 5Y view uses weekly closes.
Artive Capital doesn’t raise outside capital; it only trades and invests Artive’s own, and has no clients. This is a screen we use to decide where to look, not a recommendation to buy or sell anything. Prices are delayed and third-party data can be wrong; check with your broker before you act.
